The US process is different
Unlike many visas, the US visitor visa is applied for before you commit to travel. You complete the DS-160, attend an interview, and only book flights once the visa is approved.
What the interview really tests
The consular officer is assessing whether you’ll return home. Strong ties — employment, family, finances — matter far more than a flight booking.
If you’re asked for proof of travel
Should you need to demonstrate plans — for example for onward travel at check-in after approval — a verifiable reservation that resolves on the airline’s site is the safe choice.
